This assessment provides an in-depth look at behavioral health needs in Sweetwater County, a large and geographically dispersed rural region where access to care remains a persistent challenge. Developed for Southwest Counseling Service, the report identifies critical issues including elevated suicide and overdose rates, significant workforce shortages, and gaps in crisis services—particularly the absence of a local crisis walk-in center. Drawing on both data analysis and community input, the assessment highlights the unique barriers facing rural populations, including limited insurance coverage, long travel distances, and constrained provider capacity. It offers targeted insights to support service expansion, improve care coordination, and strengthen the region’s behavioral health safety net under the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHC) model.
